Thomas Rhue

Personal Details: Thomas Edward Lindsay Rhue was born in September 1895. He and his parents; Walter and Rebecca Ann, lived in Meningie. Thomas was a farm labourer.
Enlistment Details: Thomas and his brother, John Alfred Elijah James Rhue enlisted in Adelaide on April 12th 1916. Thomas was only 21 and 8 months at the time. They both enlisted into the 10th Battalion 1st Australian Infantry Forces (AIF).

Details about his role in War: Thomas left Melbourne on the ‘Port Melbourne’ on the 21st of October and spent 68 days on the long journey to Devonport, England. Thomas began Active Service on 29th of December 1916 and was in and out of hospital sick twice before he was wounded in action. On the 20th of August 1917; Thomas was admitted and transferred to England with a gun shot wound in his right shoulder.
After 68 days of recovery Thomas rejoined his unit. On the 13th of July, 1918, Thomas was appointed Lance Corporal.
Thomas Edward Lindsay Rhue was killed in action on the 10th of August 1918 during the Battle of Amiens.
