Frederick Sampson Jeffery

Frederick Sampson Jeffery was son to Robert Joseph and Selina Jeffery, born in Gladstone, South Australia. He had grey eyes, brown hair and a fair complexion and stood at 5' 5 1/4".

Before he enlisted, Frederick was a high school teacher. He had served for 2 years in the Prince Alfred College cadets, 9 months in the Blumberg Rifle Club and 4 years instructing Junior Cadets.

He enlisted on the 9th April, 1915 and was assigned to the 10th Battalion with the service number 2622.

Sadly Frederick was Killed in Action on the 23rd July 1916, one of the first Australian casualties of the fierce fighting at Pozieres. He has no known grave and is remembered on the wall of the Australian National Memorial at Villers-Brettoneux in France.
